Business and culture
‘’Culture eats strategy for breakfast’ (Peter Drucker)
Business conduct and culture are interlinked. What are the practiced norms in your organization? What kind of behavior is accepted and promoted in the workplace, and what isn’t? This gives a stronger signal to employees about what it takes to be successful than any neatly phrased mission, vision and value statements.
Fast-growing organizations, convinced of the strong culture they have in place, should not neglect this aspect, as their growth will bring influences from other (business) cultures into play, impacting their culture.
An important aspect in creating or maintaining a culture focused on sustainable entrepreneurship is how comfortable people feel about speaking out. A culture in which it is customary to hold each other accountable, and to deal with criticism and conflict in an open and constructive way. Such a culture is by no means a given and requires management attention.
